13. Time/Attendance Software Analysis – South Bend Community School Corp

A Collaboration Between

Engagement Synopsis

Located in north-central Indiana, the South Bend Community School Corporation is St. Joseph County’s oldest and largest school corporation, and the fourth largest school corporation in Indiana. SBCSC serves traditional K-12 students, special needs students from preschool through age 22, and a large number of adult students. In partnership with students, families and the community, the South Bend Community School Corporation provides the respect, encouragement and support every student needs to attain the knowledge and skills necessary for post-secondary success.

enFocus has collaborated with SBCSC on projects ranging from advising the Department of Technology, Strategic Planning, HR Management System implementation, Citywide Classroom South Bend, and more. This specific project will center around an analysis of best practices on implementing a time/attendance software platform to improve operations and efficiency.

Learning Objectives:

  • To determine a strategy and communication plan for training staff in a new time & attendance software. In the Spring of 2021, SBCSC will be purchasing and implementing a new software. enFocus will be helping the district with communicating to staff about this new software, and supporting training. To best capitalize on this investment, they are looking for creative ways to ensure full use of the software. It is expected that Interterm students will provide this strategic change initiative with an assessment of barriers to use, and recommendations on addressing a portion of the problem at-hand.
  • Addressing strategic change initiatives within non-profit, educational, or governmental institutions presents a unique opportunity for ND Interterm students. Through this immersive experience, students are expected to learn:
    • Creative problem solving
    • Overcoming entrenched barriers to change
    • Communication to foster buy-in for professionalization initiatives
    • Business management in an educational setting

Key Milestones & Project Process

  • March 22, 2021 - SBCSC Staff Interviews I

There will be opportunities on days one and two to meet with SBCSC staff. The goal of these meetings will be to understand how the current time and attendance processes work, and therefore what the opportunities for training and change would be. This will help to identify which staff to include in trainings, and when.

There will also be an opportunity to meet with some of the software vendors to ask about their services, and understand how other districts may have approached communication and training.

    Suggested Deliverable:

    Basic written document summarizing insights.
